Data Insights
The Garmin GPS 73's performance metrics demonstrate its suitability for serious navigation applications. Achieving 10-meter horizontal accuracy, the device provides positioning precision that exceeds many competitors in the handheld category. The satellite acquisition speed of under 30 seconds in open water environments means faster lock times than many older GPS models, reducing wait time before navigation begins. Refurbished units have been tested and verified to meet the same performance standards as new devices, making them a cost-effective alternative for users seeking proven reliability.
Usage Instructions
Power on the device and allow it to acquire satellite signals—typically completed within 30 seconds in open environments. Use the Mark button to save waypoints at important locations such as fishing spots or anchorages. The Go To function enables direct navigation back to any stored waypoint. Sailors benefit from accessing the SailAssist menu to set virtual starting lines and activate tack assistance during racing. Periodically connect the device via USB to transfer data, update charts, and manage your accumulated waypoint library.
Design & Material
The Garmin GPS 73 combines a compact form factor with an ergonomic grip designed for one-handed operation on the water. The rugged construction supports extended outdoor use while remaining light enough for extended carrying without fatigue. The device floats if accidentally dropped overboard, addressing a critical safety concern for marine users.
- Ergonomic handheld form factor fits securely in your palm for single-handed operation
- Water-resistant construction protects against rain, spray, and brief water immersion
- Device floats if dropped in water, enabling recovery without loss of equipment
- Durable rubbered exterior housing resists scratches and provides texture during wet-hand operation
- Intuitive button layout allows rapid access to Mark, Go To, and menu functions without menu diving
- High-contrast monochrome display remains readable in bright sunlight and complete darkness with adjustable backlighting
Final Verdict
The Garmin GPS 73 Refurbished delivers practical marine navigation in a portable, user-focused design. The combination of 10-meter accuracy, 1,000-waypoint storage, SailAssist sailing features, and water-resistant construction makes it essential equipment for boaters, sailors, and fishing enthusiasts who demand reliability without fleet integration complexity. The refurbished condition provides verified functionality at reduced cost, making this an intelligent choice for both new GPS users and experienced navigators seeking a backup system. Purchase with confidence knowing this device has been tested and restored to factory specifications.
