Overview

Garmin GT17M-THF 20 Degrees Transducer (010-02930-02)

Introduction

The Garmin GT17M-THF 20 Degrees Transducer delivers powerful 1 kW midband CHIRP sonar performance specifically engineered for fishing and cruising boats with high hull deadrise angles. This stainless steel thru-hull transducer operates at 80–165 kHz frequency to produce exceptionally clear fish arches, crisp structure imaging, and reliable bottom tracking across both freshwater and saltwater environments. The flush-mounted 20-degree tilted design optimizes sonar beam orientation without requiring a fairing block, reducing drag while maintaining consistent sonar clarity across varying water depths and conditions.

Key Features

  • 1 kW sonar power output for enhanced penetration and target clarity
  • Midband CHIRP frequency range spanning 80–165 kHz for adaptive sonar performance
  • Beamwidth of 9°–18° for broad underwater coverage and efficient searching
  • Maximum depth capability of 2,400 feet in freshwater and 1,800 feet in saltwater environments
  • Fast-response water temperature sensor with integrated Garmin Auto-ID technology for plug-and-play compatibility
  • Durable stainless steel housing with flush thru-hull 20-degree tilted installation for low-drag performance on high-deadrise hulls
  • 8-pin connector compatible with Garmin chartplotters and fishfinders
  • Hull compatibility across fiberglass, composite, steel, aluminum, and wooden constructions

Data Insights

The GT17M-THF combines 1 kW output with a broad 85 kHz frequency range to deliver superior target separation and structure definition compared to narrowband alternatives. The 20-degree tilted flush-mount design is specifically calibrated for boats with greater hull deadrise, ensuring optimal sonar beam angle without external installation hardware. Depth penetration reaches 2,400 feet in freshwater—covering everything from shallow spawning areas to deep offshore structures—while saltwater performance extends to 1,800 feet, making this transducer suitable for both inland fishing and coastal saltwater applications.

Usage Instructions

Install the GT17M-THF according to supplied documentation, ensuring proper flush mounting and correct alignment for optimal beam orientation. Connect the 8-pin transducer cable to a compatible Garmin chartplotter or fishfinder, where Auto-ID technology automatically detects and configures the transducer settings. Periodically inspect and clean the transducer lens to maintain accurate water temperature readings and consistent sonar performance throughout the season.

Design & Material

The GT17M-THF features precision engineering with a durable stainless steel housing built to withstand demanding marine conditions. The 20-degree tilted thru-hull design mounts flush against the hull, eliminating protrusions that create drag while maintaining the exact sonar beam angle required for superior underwater imaging on high-deadrise fishing vessels.

  • Flush-mounted stainless steel construction resists corrosion and maintains long-term reliability
  • 20-degree tilted thru-hull orientation optimizes beam angle for high-deadrise hull geometries
  • Low-drag flush installation improves vessel performance and fuel efficiency
  • No fairing block required on compatible hulls, simplifying installation and maintenance
  • Precision marine-grade materials withstand saltwater exposure and temperature cycling
  • Rugged 8-pin connector provides secure, dependable electrical connection to Garmin systems

Final Verdict

The Garmin GT17M-THF 20 Degrees Transducer is the purpose-built solution for anglers operating high-deadrise fishing boats who demand advanced CHIRP sonar without compromising vessel performance. Its 1 kW power, 80–165 kHz frequency range, and hull-specific 20-degree flush installation deliver the fish detection clarity, depth penetration, and durability required for productive saltwater and freshwater fishing. If your boat features significant hull deadrise and you rely on Garmin sonar technology, this transducer provides the seamless integration, superior imaging, and dependable temperature sensing needed for confident fishing and navigation in any condition.
